smsportal.app is a service from Poland that turns an Android phone into an SMS gateway. Messages go out from your own number and SIM card, and you send and receive them through the web dashboard, REST API, webhooks and AI agents (MCP).
Who builds smsportal.app?
smsportal.app is built by Aleksander, founder of Convs.io and BooksyAudit.pl. He also writes the blog guides on sending and receiving SMS from your own number and what it costs.
Why does it exist?
Small businesses and developers want to text from a number their customers already know and can reply to. Bulk SMS providers charge per message and usually send from a number or sender name nobody can answer. smsportal.app uses the phone and mobile plan a business already has, so there is no per-message fee.
What does it run on?
The service runs on a server in the European Union (France). The phone connects to it over the internet, picks up messages to send and forwards incoming SMS. Message content is not passed to third-party SMS providers.
The MCP server that lets AI agents send and read SMS is open source on GitHub (MIT license).
How do limits and prices work?
The Free plan costs nothing and includes 300 outgoing SMS a month, Pro includes 3,000 and Unlimited has no app limit. Received SMS and the number of phones are not limited.
Is smsportal.app the same as SMSPortal in South Africa?
No. smsportal.app is not affiliated with SMSPortal (Pty) Ltd of Cape Town (smsportal.com), a bulk SMS provider in South Africa. Reviews and prices of that company do not apply to smsportal.app.
